Merry Christmas Everyone

I was going to post a blog about my nightmares cause that’s the mindset I have been in lately. BUT I changed my mind because it’s Christmas and I am going to fake the crap out of it till I am happy… Or Tipsy and happy. So I had a change of heart on the Nightmare blog and decided to write a Christmas Blog. I sent my PCP an email and asked for a psychiatrist recommendation. She promptly responded with her suggestion and then I sent it to my husband to call because I’m to scared to call. Also, I don’t want to call from my job.  He said he would call when his work slows down. We’ll see what happens. I don’t know why I am so scared to call doctors. (He did call and we can’t find anyone in the area that is accepting new patients… That’s awesome.)
Anyway…. Back to Christmas.  We are low key Christmasing this year. I had everything delivered so I just have to wrap it over the weekend. I have everyone done except the dogs for their stockings. I will buy the steak over the weekend for dinner on Christmas. We’re going to grill and I will make some sides. We have Pj’s that I bought 4 years ago when we first bought our house, we might wear those.
4 years ago I made everyone wear flannels even though it was the hottest Christmas ever. For real, I think it was at least 80 degrees outside. My husband and I also lit a fire in the fire place because we just bought the house and we had a fire place so you have to light that on Christmas. We were all sweating and it was awesome. We might light the fire place this year, but not if it’s a billion degrees. I am not forcing anything this year. We’re just going to open our gifts and chill out.
My sister, niece, and in laws are coming to eat and I’ll probably find some movie to watch on TV. I have to work Wednesday. My husband is off with the kids all week. That’s pretty much it.
I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. I hope everyone gets to spend time with the people they love and have a really good time. I hope you get what you are wishing for. Merry Christmas.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Review

My husband loooooved this movie. He said it was probably his most favorite Spider-Man movie ever. He loved the animation, the story and said it was an interesting Doc Octopus. He said there was plenty of Easter eggs in there for people that truly followed the story and he loved the Cameo with Stan Lee.

My son said it was his most favorite movie ever. He loved every part of it.

My daughter fell asleep after snacks about an hour and a half in.

I thought it was really good. I enjoyed the animations, I liked the way it was like a live comic book. I thought that it was interesting and I really liked that I could enjoy the movie when I don’t know a lot about Spiderman. It was a long movie but unlike the fantastic beast movie, it was interesting. I would recommend going to the movie theater to see this movie. It’s worth it. I can’t wait till it comes out on DVD too, I know we will be buying this. I really liked the music too.

Mom’s goulash recipe

This recipe is very easy to change to your liking. I like a lot of garlic and onions but you can add however much you prefer. I am writing my version of how I make it but I even make it a little different than my mom. The basic recipe comes from her I think she said she got it from some magazine when we were growing up and put her own spin on it too.
I hope you enjoy!
One box of large Shells
a bunch of minced garlic
one onion (I like yellow)
1 tablespoon or so of oil
1 -1 1/2 lbs of ground beef
2 cans of stewed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups of ketchup
1 – 1 1/2 cup of water
salt and pepper to taste
Boil a pot of water, add shells. Turn off water and cover for 10 minutes. Drain shells.
In a pan add oil and garlic and onion. cook for a few minutes and add ground beef and brown. Once beef is cooked add 2 cans of tomatoes. My sister likes to mash these up because she doesn’t like big chunks. I don’t mind chunks of tomato but I let her mash. Add salt and pepper and basil or oregano, whatever you like. Add cup and a half of ketchup and cup of water. Stir all together and let it cook for about 10 minutes to combine. It should be soupy so the shells can cook a little more and absorb some of the water, add more water if you need. Add shells stir and let cook for like 15-20 minutes. Longer if you want it a softer pasta and thicker sauce.
Serve with Parm sprinkled on top and a couple slices of garlic bread.
My son does not like the meat and sauce so I usually put some of the plain shells in a bowl on the side for him with butter and he eats that with garlic bread.

Weekend Family Getaway Ideas in the Northeast

New York is not going to be on this list. We live in Connecticut and it’s a 45-60 minutes train ride in to Grand Central. If we go to the City, we go for a day trip and then come home. I grew up here so I spent many, many days and nights with girlfriends and boyfriends out and about in the City. My husband grew up in Manhattan and then the Bronx his whole life. When we first got together I was like “Let’s move to the City!” And he was like “Get me the fuck out of the City!” So we stayed in Connecticut and then ended up buying a house in Norwalk and that’s where we live now. New York is an Awesome city though and there is so much to do there. You can find anything. I was not a big dance club person,  I loved the comedy clubs, shopping, museums and shows. I will write another blog about New York and all the things I would recommend.
We are Hilton Honors members so I try to pick Hilton Brand hotels. This past year we stayed at a lot of Hampton Inn’s. Most of the time there is a pool, there is a complimentary breakfast and the beds are pretty comfy. The rooms usually have a microwave and a mini fridge which is really nice so we can keep snacks in the room because the kids are always hungry. The breakfast is nice because we are not big breakfast people and the kids can pick whatever they want.
We have stayed here every year for a weekend in the end of February, beginning of March for the past 5 years. This past year will be our last because my husband has left the job that paid for that! I did like this weekend get away. There is plenty of things to do at this resort! Obviously skiing, snowboarding and tubing. They have a ice skating rink, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. There is a spa that I have never used and a small arcade. There is also a mountain coaster that my kids loved.
We liked the skating rink and the pools. We don’t ski or snowboard, no one in my family really had any interest in learning so I don’t know about that. I heard from my husbands coworkers that it was fun. We did snow tube but two years ago my tube flipped and I ended up in the hospital with a concussion. That was the end of snow tubing for us!
There isn’t a lot of good food that we found around the Resort. Except the Hatchery. You should stop at the Hatchery for breakfast if you go. It is really good. And we would stop at Outback for pizza one night. The pizza is pretty good. Besides that everywhere else we have tried was just alright.
This past year we took a day trip to the Ben and Jerry Factory and that was fun. It was a 3 hour round trip from the resort, but we had fun and stopped at a apple cider place and found some really good burgers by the Ben and Jerry Factory.
For us, we will not be going back simply because we don’t really ski or snowboard and it’s kind of a long way to go and there is nothing much else around during the winter. I wouldn’t mind trying to go back during the summer one year in the future to see how the summer activities are.
Mystic, CT. – We went here in April and it was a little chilly but really nice. We went for a quick overnight and stayed at the Hampton Inn.  The first day we went to the seaport and walked around. It was really cool. We went on some boats, and in the little shops. In the shops they have people who are dressed up and tell you all about how they did things back in the day. There is a planetarium that we all really enjoyed. The seaport closed around 5:00 so we went to the hotel and swam until we were hungry. We didn’t go to mystic pizza, we went to a little place across the parking lot at the hotel. It had pretty good pizza and cheap draft beer so that was a nice way for us to unwind and relax. The next day we swam, ate breakfast and checked out. Then we headed to the Aquarium. The aquarium is pretty cool. We all enjoyed it. I highly recommend a trip  here if you are looking for something interesting and quick.
If you go to thisismystic.com there is a package that you can buy for access to the Aquarium and the Seaport. I recommend doing this.
Lake George, NY- We went here in June with some friends and rented a house. I didn’t have fun on this trip but it was more about the people than the things to do. I think I would go back but with my family only and I would want to rent something on the lake which means we would have to book much earlier. We went on the river tubing for 2 hours, that was a blast. And we went to the beach area one day, that was fun too. Walking around town was fun. They also have a arcade with a rollerskating rink and go carts. We went here for a few hours and that was fun! Another day we went paddle boarding for 2 hours, I think I would have been okay with just 1 hour! It was fun though. While we took half the kids to that the other half went on a ropes course and I heard that they had fun. We stayed for 3 nights and honestly, that was enough for me. I do want to come back here, but with just my family, or I would stay in a resort instead of renting a house so that we could have our own space or go do our own things.
Washington DC –  I would visit in the Spring or Fall. It was a 5 hours drive from Connecticut. We went for a 2 nights and 3 days. We stayed at the Hampton inn here too because it had the pool and breakfast. I picked the park and stay package because I read that parking In DC is expensive. This hotel was right by China town so we did get some pretty good Ramen while here. My only issue with the hotel was that it was kind of far to walk to see the white house and the Lincoln memorial.  To get to the museums though, it wasn’t so bad and they are free. We went to the Spy museum (not free) and all of us really enjoyed that as well. The kids had a blast in the pool. It was on the small side but it was fine for a couple hours!
Cape Cod, Mass- We went here in September for a quick weekend get away for my birthday. I love going to the Cape in September… Okay, this was only my second trip and I have never gone in the summer. I am not a beach person though. Like lay on the beach for hours, that’s not me. I like to walk up and down the beach and look in the tide pools and watch the kites and surfers.  We stayed in West Yarmouth  and I think we are planning on going back next year again. We stayed at the Hampton inn here too and it was nice. The pool was a good size. I liked the location of this hotel. We were right a main strip. the Pirate Museum was right down the street and I highly recommend  visiting that. It was really interesting. We also did a duck boat tour and that was more just for fun.
We also stopped by the cape cod factory which is basically a hallway with some posters up and then a gift shop. If you are in the area and have 20 minutes to burn, I would stop there, But the cape cod factory was a little bit of a disappointment in my honest opinion. We basically went out exploring all day and then went back to the hotel at night and ordered pizza and swam. We had a lot of fun and I feel like there is so much more to do so we need to go back.
I tried to charter a boat to do some fishing and September is not a good time for that I was told. The fish are far out so you have to do the longer day trips, we weren’t interested with 8 hours on a boat, I just wanted to do 2 hours or lobstering. Being that it was the end of the season, a lot of places had already closed up right after Labor day.
This is my list of weekend getaways so far! Next year, I plan on going to Boston, and a couple other places. Maybe New Hampshire. Maybe Pennsylvania. I don’t know.  I’m not sure. Any one have any other ideas of great places to visit for a night or two?

Finishing up Christmas

So now that my daughters birthday is done it’s time to get to Christmas shopping. This year we are keeping it low key and shopping for the kids, each other and my sister. My sister’s birthday is Christmas eve so I always try to do one Birthday gift and one Christmas gift. In the correct wrapping paper for the holiday.  This is what our Christmas list will look like.
My daughter would like some American Girl stuff but since that is a lot of money she will be getting Target brand American Girls. AKA “My Generation”. Right now they have a deal were if you spend $100.00 on toys, you get $25.00 off… So I ordered her a few things to open.
My son would like a parrot. Santa will adopt a Parrot and  leave a note that if he researches what parrots need and how to take care of them, he might get one next year… . Then he wants some small things an a couple Nintendo switch games. So that’s what my husband will pick up for him.
My husband wanted an Easel. Our local Art store had a fantastic deal over the weekend so we got an Easel and a bunch of canvas for $250.00. Then I ordered him some CBD lotion to help with his aches and pain, that I ordered from diamondcbd.com and I was able to find a coupon code for 50% off! So yay for retail me not.
I would like an anklet. The one I had before broke. I love the sweet nothing  one from Catbird, so I believe my husband got that for me… You know, since I sent him the link and said this is what I want for Christmas. Hehe.
My niece is getting a new phone for Christmas, T mobile had a pretty good deal so my sister did a down payment and we’ll pay the monthly. We also got her some phone accessories to go with it.
My nephew is getting the Melissa and Doug ice cream shop set.
For my sister, I am going to get her some bed sheets cause that’s what she finally said she could use after I asked her a billion times. I’m also going to take her shopping for her birthday so she can pick our some clothes for herself. If I give her a gift card she will spend it on her daughter and my sister needs clothes. Then we’ll take her to dinner at her favorite place and get her an ice cream cake, cause that’s what she loves.
The kids had a holiday shop at school so they have some little gifts that they bought for everyone.
I’m going to get my coworkers something small. I usually do chocolate from trader joes because it’s yummy and reasonably priced, lotto tickets and a card.
I’ll get each teacher a $20.00 gift card to TJMAXX. And the crossing guard will get a gift card as well just because I wave at him every day.
The dogs will get new bones and bob the turtle will get something for his tank.
Then I go out and grab some small things for the stockings. My mom used to always load us up with candy, I am not a big fan of stockings full of candy. I’ll get some gloves, or socks, chap stick and whatever else I see that’s small and something I think the kids will like.
And that’s pretty much our Christmas! What do you do for Christmas???

Fantastic Beast Movie Review

Went to the movies Tuesday night to see fantastic beasts. It was alright. Actually, It was really long, we all got bored. I did not read the book so I have no idea how long that is. I did read all the Harry Potter books and I do plan on rereading those with my kids when they are interested. Back to the movie, I felt like they tried to Jam way to much story into this movie. Sam’s review was the fighting was cool and then there was a phoenix and the guy blew up a mountain. Isabel’s review was that she was bored and she fell asleep shortly after finishing her gummy worms (about halfway through). Ray said he pretty much agreed with me and thought the movie was never going to end… I don’t know if I would go see it in the movie theater if it wasn’t half price Tuesday. I wouldn’t pay to see it again though. I might watch it again if there was nothing else on TV and it is free.

Next week we will see Mary Poppins!

School drop off sadness and mom guilt

Girl was sad this morning. I think it’s partly because she has a cold and she’s just not feeling 100%. She cried at drop off and made me feel awful. I told her that she needed to not focus on the sadness right now and go to school. I said you’re making yourself more sad, you know you have to go to school and I have to go to work. You will have a short day Friday. She gave me another kiss and another quick hug, took a deep breath and walked away really fast.

It really made me feel bad and I left feeling like I shouldn’t have said all that. I should have been like I know and given her a hug and held her. I know though that when I have done that in the past, she’s gotten more emotional and then I’m there hugging her for 10 minutes until a teacher comes over and takes her to class. Then I feel even more terrible cause I feel like I made it all worse. I don’t know.

Is there a good way to get through this where everyone is feeling okay and gets to where they need to be? I haven’t found it yet.

Christmas this year

We usually do a low key Christmas. Thanksgiving is when I do all the cooking and family comes over. Christmas is more of a relaxing day for us. This year it’s on a Tuesday and I have to work the next day. The kids are off for the week and so is my husband.
Christmas morning The kids wake up and we watch them open gifts and drink coffee. Then we just hang out and watch movies and play with new toys.
Christmas is when my sister and Niece come over around lunch. We cook something and open gifts and lay around and relax. Sometimes we make a fire.
This year I think we’re going to have Me ma and Pe paw come over and we’re going to grill some steaks and I’ll make some corn, baked potato and salads.
I think I might try to make this almond joy bark recipe. https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a50636/almond-joy-bark-recipe/
That’s pretty much it. That’s how we will celebrate this year!
How do you usually celebrate?
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone has a nice one!

Some Mornings…

You ever have those mornings were you show up at work and you’re like how did I even get here? Do my clothes match? Did I rinse the conditioner out of my hair? Did I put mascara on?
This morning was something. I am at work, sure. I made it on time. The kids are dressed. I remembered hat day at school. I think I am put together okay. I don’t even remember looking in the mirror today! I think I did my makeup okay. I trust that my husband didn’t let me walk out of the house completely miss matched. I have my water and my apple, so there’s that.
I took my Vitamins on an empty stomach and chugged ice water and coffee  and ran out the door… and then threw up in the driveway while we were getting in the car to go to school and work. I really should take those things at night. The Vitamin D pills make me so nauseous sometimes. The I had to run back in the house to brush my teeth again and get water to clean the driveway. Then we talked in the car about me taking Vitamins and if they are bad for you. I usually go over the day with the kids so we’re all the same page about the day, when I’m picking them up and what they might want for dinner… Not today. So I think we’re having spaghetti.. I have no idea. The point is, some mornings are just like this I guess! Also, I hope I remembered to put deodorant on.

The thing about being Average

You ever write something and you’re like this is amazing! I’m great. Then  you put it down and read it a couple months or years later and you’re like what the fuck was I on?
That’s kind of what happens to me. A lot. Haha. I noticed that even in the short amount of things I have posted. Even reading back to stuff I wrote over 10 years ago. Or back in college.
I know that a lot of this stuff is stuff. It’s just thoughts or quick stories or some things I have learned and I think someone else might be interested in. But then I look back and I’m like holy shit, I am so average.
It’s really no wonder I’m a biller.
