Christmas 2019

Hi Everyone!
This year feels like it flew by for me. I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas. We JUST put the tree up this past Sunday. I didn’t even get a chance to decorate the front yard this year because it was just back to back Thanksgiving and then birthday’s and parties and I think I finally get to really rest this weekend. I have 5 days off and I am looking forward to every single one of them.

We did basically all of our shopping online this year and I think everything has been delivered except one gift for my husband. It should be coming the 27th but maybe by some miracle it will arrive earlier.

I did decorate in the inside of the house and put the wreath on the front door. I was going to at least put lights on the tree in the front yard but then we had this ice storm and everything is frozen. It looks beautiful but I’m not going to hang lights on the frozen branches.  But we’ll see, maybe this weekend I’ll get extra energy…

My sisters birthday is Christmas Eve so I try to keep it as birthday celebration as possible. We take her out to dinner and have cake and give actual birthday presents wrapped in actual birthday wrapping paper. She always got slightly cheated on the entire birthday celebration when we were growing up, even though I think she should celebrate a half birthday in June so she can have a real birthday party. She said I was crazy, I thought it was a pretty genius idea! Haha.

For Christmas we keep it low key. Easter and Thanksgiving are my hosting holiday’s. This year we’ll wake up, open gifts, my sister and niece will come over after they do their morning things. I am going to make a prime rib this year, I never made that before so I am hoping it comes out amazing. I am making mashed potatoes, garlic butter mushrooms and garlic bread on the side. I will probably make rice too because my children won’t eat any of the sides I am planning. That’s it. I have to work Thursday and Friday.

  1. The menu for your party sounds so delicious! I think the half-birthday thing is pretty smart. Hehe. I did nearly all of my shopping online this year too. It’s really a no-brainer at this point. Merry Christmas!

  2. I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks this holiday season has flown by! My family and I were able to decorate the yard, but not the inside of the house! And I still have present wrapping to do. Where has the time gone?? And I think your idea for your sister’s half birthday is genius! Who doesn’t want another birthday celebration?? Lately, my family has been getting Chinese food on Christmas Day night! It’s one of the only places that’s open and we usually make something special Christmas Eve, so on Christmas Day we like to relax. That’s our newest tradition! 🙂

  3. This year we’re taking it easy and adjusting to the fact that almost all of our family moved out of town this past year so Christmas is very different this time around.

  5. Merry Christmas! My family’s going to the movies on Christmas Eve and watching the new Star Wars movie. Then Christmas I’ll have Christmas lunch with my extended family, and Christmas dinner with my partner’s family so double Christmas feast day.

  6. It’s really great that you celebrate her birthday as a birthday! My cousin is born on Christmas Eve, so she always has a party during summer vacation so her friends can come – sort of like the half birthday. Good luck with your prime rib – sounds lovely.

  7. It sounds like a really lovely Christmas. It’s nice that you try and make your sister’s birthday a thing still. My boyfriend, his daughter and my dad all have birthdays in December, not quite your sister’s situation but I still try and make them special. My family will have a small Christmas at our house and then a bigger Christmas the following Saturday at an aunt’s house. Merry Christmas!

  9. Hasn’t the year gone by so fast? We are having an extended family Christmas and then holiday beachside. For a few weeks of the year my biggest drama is remembering to apply sunscreen. Bring it on. Merry Christmas.

  10. My husband and I typically celebrate with his family on Christmas Eve and my family on Christmas Day. However, this year we are doing things differently. We are doing our own dinner and we will celebrate with our families both days. A special tradition my family does is going to the cemetery and decorating the graves of our loved ones. We’ve done this every year since the passing of my Grandfather in 2012. My husband has taken a liking to this tradition as well. In the evening of Christmas Eve we go to the cemetery and it’s truly a magical sight to see all the graves decorated.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas! Thank you for sharing this wonderful post!
